Batteries shipped from the factory are charged to approximately 40% of capacity. Lithium-

ion battery packs must be fully charged before use. These batteries can be charged with a

variety of chargers and docking stations. Currently the following are available:

• The Snap Module is a mobile adaptor for Omnii. Three models are available—see

“Snap Modules” on page 177.

• The AC Wall Adaptor operates as an AC power source and also charges the battery

installed in the unit—see “AC Wall Adaptor - Model No. ST1050” on page 179.

• The Vehicle Power Outlet Adaptor powers Omnii and recharges the battery using power

drawn from your vehicle’s automotive power outlet—see “Vehicle Power Outlet

Adaptor - Model ST3113” on page 179.

• The Desktop Docking Stations operate as both chargers and docking stations. Operating

as a charger, both the battery installed in Omnii and a spare battery can be charged. Pri-

ority is given to charging the hand-held's battery. See “Desktop Docking Stations -

Models ST4002 and ST4003” on page 180.

Normally it takes 3 to 4 hours to charge a battery. The Omnii intelligent charging system

protects the battery from over-charging by terminating the charge process when the battery

is at maximum capacity.

6.5.3 Installation—Chargers and Docking Stations

When installing a charger or docking station, consider the following guidelines.

• Keep chargers and docking stations away from excessive dirt, dust and contaminants.

• Chargers will not charge batteries outside an ambient temperature range of 0°C to 40°C

(32°F to 104°F). It is recommended that the charger or docking station be operated at

room temperature—between 18°C and 25°C (64°F to 77°F) for maximum performance.

Important: To avoid damaging the battery, chargers will not begin the charge process

until the battery temperature is between 0°C to 45°C (32°F to 113°F).
